A woman here has delivered a baby boy weighing only 490 grams at birth.
Twenty-seven years old Premlata, resident of Choti Dhanna locality of Pithampur Industrial Area, delivered the boy on December 13.
After the birth at the civil hospital, doctors referred the child to Indore, but Premlata and her husband Shyam decided to admit him at the Red Cross Hospital here as they were unable to bear high expenses, according to Red Cross Hospital in-charge, M L Sharma.
The child, now in the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), has gained 110 grams since the birth, Sharma said.
Dr Khuzema Furniturewala, a neonatologist who is treating the infant, said, "Such a fast recovery (110 grams in four days) is very rare, and on the basis of this weight gain, it could be presumed that the child will be all normal in 15 days." The baby is now feeding on the mother's milk.
